Cusco Street Food

Enjoy all the best delights that the streets of Cusco can provide!

The 3-hour excursion starts with a history of Peru’s street foods. After which we move make our way through a series of places to taste and savor the different flavors of Peru.

Our first stop is in Santa Catalina Street with tamales made from juicy white corn with a sweet and salty flavor. This vendor has been selling on that corner for 30 years and has received an award from the best chef of Peru (Gaston Acurio) for the best tamales in Cusco. Many of the restaurants in Cusco buy tamales from this little place in the corner of the plaza.

Then, we go for a refreshing fruit drink from vendors who call their male customers “papi” and their female customers “mami”. This is their way to say, “Please let us serve you.”

We also get to savor one of the most representative street foods in the Andes: choclo con queso (corn with cheese) from the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Urubamba. We consider this white corn the BEST corn in the world. The large size and juicy, sweet flavor combine with Andean cheese for a delicious taste.

From a local market we will get a taste of tocto, a street food also known as chicharron, crispy fried pork skin. We will also try the chicha morada, a classic refreshing drink made from purple corn.

Next street food to satisfy our taste buds is the rocoto relleno, a pepper stuffed with meat and vegetables and a side of small Andean baked potatoes.

We end the tour where lawyers and bankers come for a snack in the middle of the day and try the anticuchos (grilled beef heart with baked potatoes and spicy sauce) and the favorite drink in Cusco: Cusqueña beer.
